Thank you to Alka Joshi for inviting me on her show, Reimagine! I absolutely loved speaking with her about books and travel! We talked about: getting started in traveling with my family, safety, travel planning, being prepared and what is in your suitcase! What would you miss if your luggage disappeared? Lisa cannot live without her kindle to read books but Alka reads paperback and hardcover books.

We talked about how to get started as a travel writer (13.10) and my last trip before COVID on Ecoventura in the Galapagos! It was incredible to be invited and I just kept thinking, “I must have done something good!”

We talked about my safari with Abercrombie and Kent in Africa when I was in Tanzania– my 100th country! (14.09)! Watch the videos of elephants, giraffes, hippos and more!

Alka asked me about the importance of creating my travel videos—see them all and my over 1.3 Million views on my YouTube channel.

We talked about my trip to the Solomon Islands (14:53) for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Guadalcanal which I wrote about for Smithsonian Magazine which was nominated for a Southern California Journalism Award!

Once in Samoa, a family took me to their house. I made a video about how the Seligas saved us in Falealupo, Samoa. People will write to me and say, that is my Aunt’s house or I used to live there. Video brings the space you visited into people’s lives that is why I think video is so important.

How do stories happen? Lisa tells about how she wrote for Sierra Club Magazine about NAC (National Ability Center) and skiing with Jennifer who is blind. (18.09 & more 19.32)

Lisa’s KTLA TV segment for Odgen happened because she sent her producer at P.S. (19.17) about going skiing there.

Being a travel writer requires curiosity and talking to people as well as being a participant! Lisa hula-hooped with the Maasai warriors! (24.35)

Lisa is a participant! In the Galapagos (25.31), she did EVERY activity: hiking, kayaking and snorkeling with penguins!

Lisa went scuba diving in Cuba at Gardens of the Queen and when she got home to write her articles–her notes were in Spanish! (27.15)

Lisa and Alka talked about working with editors to make an article better and Alka is writing novel #3 and learning about fragrance and perfume! Lisa wrote for the airline inflight print magazines for Delta, United, American Airlines and Air Canada.

Where is it safe to travel now? (29.30) Lisa’s first trip after 450 days in Los Angeles was to fly to San Jose, California and visit college friends. For summer and fall, people are going to visit family and friends like I did and celebrate graduations, anniversaries and birthdays that were missed! Tourism supports many families around the world–hopefully many of us can start to safely travel again. (30.35) Think about taking a job in hospitality! I loved working on cruise ships and traveling the world.

Where do I want to go? Iceland (31.40), Antarctica and anywhere outdoors: Montana, Hawaii and every National Park! I also really want to go swim with the Whale sharks and go back to Bonaire (32.52)

What type of articles will Lisa be focusing on? (34.33) Trips with meaning like these 10 she wrote about for Ms. Magazine. I loved learning about how Likuliku Resort has been saving the Fijian crested Iguana!

There are GOOD NEWS stories and people making a difference by helping around our planet. We talked about my story for Ms. Magazine about How Bicycles Can Change the World! (35.40) I learned about this project on my Africa trip with Abercrombie and Kent.

FUN FACT from my trip to OGDEN!! Why does the United States have time zones? Because of the TRAIN! I went to the museum about the trains and learned so much! (36.10)
