This week, WSGT is interviewing Erin Holmes-Bender of @explorewitherin, a travel site dedicated to showing the rewards and realities of family travel!
1.)Where was the first place that you traveled that made you think WOW—travel is amazing (think history book come to life or …..)
Italy. It was my dream for as long as I can remember. When I was in high school I had an Italian penpal (do you remember those?) so it was always on my bucket list. That and my favourite books when I was a teen were the Lion Mark by Francine Rivers set during the full gladiator Colosseum period. So that moment I stepped into the colosseum was my ‘WOW’ moment.
2.)If you had unlimited resources, where would you go and what would you do?
I would do what I am doing now, but probably in a private jet lol. We live a very blessed life to travel and live the lifestyle we do, there’s not much I would change.. Except the getting there 🙂
3.)What were you afraid to do and how did you find the courage to overcome it?
I am not a fan of the ocean. Jaws ruined it for me. And the multiple shark attack reportings we have in Australia. Every day I attempt to overcome it. From cruising, to snorkelling to just last month completing my diving certificate That was huge! I’m a big believer in the saying, “Do something every day that scares you.” Live live to the max, it’s the only one you get.

4.)What apps do you use regularly that make your life easier?
5.)What place do you wish more people had seen?
Kythnos, Greece. Visitors flock to the well known islands of Greece but the lesser known ones are so much better. Obviously less crowded, so hospitable and just as beautiful.
6.)Best advice you have been given and by whom?
My Dad taught me the 10, 10, 80 rule and I have never forgotten it. 10% savings, 10% charity, 80% spending. I’ve lived my life like that and it has always made sure I was wealthy inside and out.
Erin and her children left Australia in 2012 to pursue the adventure of a lifetime. As a unit they have traveled to over 50 countries and continue on discovering new places together.
