Real Kentucky

“How are you fine ladies today?”,You never hear phrases like that anymore,do you?Well,I do.In Paintsville,Kentucky we have good ‘ole southern manners and respect. We feed anyone who crosses our threshold, and we constantly practice our manners.I have moved all my life and discovered no place greater than Paintsville. There is no other place that I have found where people are so kind, true and still have strong morals not even the toughest politicians can break.

Everyone here has high faith and treats everyone like family, there are no outsiders, this is the true meaning of a small town.Everyone knows everyone, and there is not a name you do not know, nor a face you can’t recall.Paintsville also has an interesting history.Native Americans were the first peoples know to the land, they drank from a creek (stream) you can see when you walk through town, they would always paint on the rocks, that caused to become known as Paint Creek, which changed into Paintsville. If you have never lived in a small town, especially one in Appalachia, you’re missing out.Our town has came together on many occasions, especially after a tornado three years ago and a flood this past winter.

But,our town pulled together and we made sure those who needed help received it,and everything is alright. Our Public School in the county is phenomenal, the Johnson Central School district has won countless awards and academic titles, people try to stereotype the people of Appalachia as redundant, but we have way more awards than schools of other states. Our town and county has produced many extremely talented and well known people, such as Chris Stapleton,Richard Scott Thomas,Venus Ramey(former Miss America),Crystal Gayle,Willie Blair,Jim Ford,Jim Fyffe,Loretta Lynn,Johnnie LeMaster and many others.I personally love the beautiful scenery the mountains provide. The mountains are part of our heritage, the mountains represent the struggles our ancestors.

I have two different places, but I have never loved any the way I love Paintsville.Everyone that lives here takes pride in their community and heritage. This is the only town where I have felt truly comfortable, everyone in Paintsville is so kind and welcoming to new comers,we are simple but smart.Everyone in Paintsville is hard working and wants to change the unjust stereotyping of Eastern Kentucky, our ancestors may have made some bad choices, but the current population of Eastern Kentucky is just as connected with world as Californians are,so we take pride in the place we live and we do our best to gather around and help each other in hard times, that’s one of my favorite things about Paintsville, people around here still have strong morals that won’t fade, most of us may be stubborn, but we are for good reason. We believe that we need to continue to instill good old fashion value in every generation, especially in our current one since we live in such a confusing world.Another thing that is synonymous with Eastern Kentucky is hunting and guns.

Yes,a lot of us may be gun activists, but we are for good reason. We teach our families how to properly use fire arms,we also love the out doors and hunting is a family tradition that’s been going on in my family for so many generations it’s not untraceable.I am thankful for the town of Paintsville Kentucky and all of its people that have helped me develop my own morals and have shown me that I can be who ever I want to be,and that there is still an abundance of wonderful people in this world. There is no other place that I have found where people are so kind, true and still have strong morals not even the toughest politicians can break.Everyone here has high faith and treats everyone like family, there are no outsiders, this is the true meaning of a small town.Everyone knows everyone, and there is not a name you do not know, nor a face you can’t recall.Paintsville also has an interesting history.Native Americans were the first peoples know to the land, they drank from a creek (stream) you can see when you walk through town, they would always paint on the rocks, that caused to become known as Paint Creek, which changed into Paintsville. If you have never lived in a small town, especially one in Appalachia, you’re missing out.
