Dharamshala, India – Find your consolation here!

There are very few places in the world which encapsulate you into its atmosphere giving you a sense of fulfilment. One such place for me is Dharamshala in North of India in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Dharamshala has a serenity about it that made me appreciate and thank life for whatever it has offered me so far. This hilly region, called ‘Little Lhasa’, has stunning mountains, trees, cold rivulets, chantings of the monks, the monastery, the silent images of Buddhas, smiling faces, prayer wheels and apron clad people – a society peaceful yet charming!

Its mountains whispered at me, they wanted to tell me something. They looked at me wishing to reveal a secret. I surrendered myself to the beauty of Dharamshala.

In the streets of Mcleodganj you can smell the freshly brewed ginger lemon tea at cafes which warms you up in winters and the delicious momos which touch your palate and just melt. The Indian home of His Holiness Dalai Lama, it is a place where faith finds many expressions. The monastery where you see many moods of the monks some with their cell phones, praying, lighting lamps while lighting new hopes. The monastery with its scenic view left my soul with a soothing feeling which was very uplifting. While visiting the monastery I grabbed a candle and placed it in a glass enclosure with the rest of the other candles all lit up. For me that moment was a way to show solidarity towards the human experience of togetherness that brought people to the monastery irrespective of caste, creed or race.

The most interesting part for me was that you can make a connection with the Buddhist monks, their conviction, their philosophy, and their way of life. Nothing is permanent but this feeling that Dharamshalla offers you – peaceful, tranquil and spiritual are something that will stay with me forever. I felt so much more empowered and stronger to face what was in store for me.

Dharamshala allowed me to spend time in a blissfull routine of doing absolutely nothing. No drama, no stress just me and nature. It made me feel grounded in my existence and hopeful about what lies ahead. When you are here it is impossible to not learn something new about yourself and the universe. The beautiful energy of the Himalayas filled me with gratitude.

It is a place where religion, culture, spirituality all come together to create magic. Meditate, shop, eat or chat up with the locals, the slow paced life here gave me a chance to break away from the chaos of the city life and revisit myself. Dharamshala has taken a part of me, which I never really get back. When you are in here it is time to look inwards and find your consolation!
