Turkey: An Ideal Destination for a Family Holiday

Turkey is an excellent choice for a family holiday. You will find that you can eat and get around cheaply, and that your children are welcome wherever you go. There are great prices on trips to Turkey  at the moment, too.

The main tourist areas for families are the Aegean coast and the Mediterranean coast. Along the Aegean you will find ancient cities and historical sites, as well as spectacular landscape. The Mediterranean coast is known for its fabulous beaches and mountain scenery.

The most popular destination for British families is the resorts of the Bodrum peninsula. This is situated between the two coastlines, giving you access to everything that you need for an ideal family holiday. It also has the advantage of a short airport transfer.

Bodrum itself offers lively entertainment, with lots of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from. It also has a castle, evening entertainments and traditional markets several times a week. You can take tours to local places of interest, and even quite young children will enjoy travelling about on the friendly and inexpensive local buses.

Families of younger children and babies may choose to spend much of their time on the beaches, enjoying the sun and the beautiful surroundings. There are some small, quiet resorts to choose from, allowing you to spend your daytimes relaxing, while seeking out entertainment in the livelier resorts in the evenings. Some resorts and hotels also offer specific children’s facilities and entertainments, such as kids’ clubs and babysitting services.

Older children will also enjoy the beaches, and can take part in a variety of water sports. They will also enjoy exploring the many historical sites that Turkey has to offer, such as the ruins of ancient Troy. Alternatively, try a boat trip to the nearby Greek island of Kos or take a tour to the fascinating city of Istanbul.

There is a wide range of accommodation for families to choose from. You may like the flexibility of self catering, or you might prefer one of the many family friendly hotels that are available. Another option is to stay in an all-inclusive resort, where there are lots of activities on offer for both children and their parents. Whichever you choose, your family is sure to have an enjoyable and relaxing holiday in Turkey.

  1. The Aegean coast has historical sites but the Mediterranean coast is more well known for its collection. The Lycian way on the Med coast stretches from Antalya to Fethiye is purely based on historical sites and it would take you an estimated three months to see them all, if you walked the trail.
