1.)Where was the first place that you traveled that made you think WOW—travel is amazing (think history book
come to life or …..)

It would probably be a business trip I took back in 1999. I went to Taipei which was the first time I had ever traveled out of North America.

Me, Camera, and Fish, Great Barrire Reef - Cairns, Queensland, Australia

2.)If you had unlimited resources, where would you go and what would you do?

I’d travel to the South Pole. It is very difficult and expensive to get there, but it is the ultimate destination for explorers.

3.)What were you afraid to do and how did you find the courage to overcome it?

I wasn’t afraid. Once I made the decision to travel around the world, it was just a matter of tying up all the loose ends before I could start.

4.)What apps do you use regularly that make your life easier?

TripIt, Google Maps, Instgram

5.)What place do you wish more people have seen?

There are so many places which most people don’t know about. There are places in the Pacific such as Micronesia which are unknown to most people, as well as national parks in Nothern Canada like Nahanni.

6.)Best advice you have been given and by whom?

The ability to adapt is more important than the ability to plan. I figured that out myself.

Me and the Ladies at Prambanan

7.)When were you surprised by the kindness of strangers on a trip?

In Oman I was given a ride form Nizwa to Muscat by a stranger who spoke no English. He refused to accept any money and left before I could say goodbye.

8.)What inspired you to travel for extended periods of time or live in a new country?

I enjoy learning and the world is the greatest school there is.

9.)I travel because….

I can
